Representing Project Management Data

What are the most effective graphs for project management?

By Emma Meakin

The most popular and effective project management graph is the Gantt chart. This useful tool allows you to schedule the start and completion times for project tasks, it illustrates task dependencies and sequences, and it gives all team members a visual overview of the project.

Alternatively, the PERT chart can be more effective for larger projects, as it can depict more complex dependencies and parallel activities.

Process control graphs are effective for understanding variations in data that can affect a project, and enable you to ensure that project quality remains within acceptable limits.

Other effective graphs include the Pareto chart for visualising quality analysis and fish-bone diagrams for depicting cause and effect relationships.
