Some of us are natural-born leaders, but others could gain a great deal from undertaking training on key leadership skills. Even if you think you already know all the skills and techniques, reinforcement through training can be a great confidence booster.
Honing key skills
Whilst you may think it is a waste of time and money attending a leadership course, this is often not the case. When you start a new company you are elevated to the role of leader overnight. This can test not only your interpersonal skills but also your knowledge. Therefore attending a course can help you hone key skills such as communication, team work, and decision making.
Look at others' behaviours
Another key resource should be your own manager, if you have one. If not, look at the behaviours of other leaders you know. This can be a good way to recognize what works and what doesn’t. Leaders are not only in the business world - try taking inspiration from the captain of your favourite sports team. Leaders can be found in all walks of life, so keep your eyes open and you will soon pick up the skills you need.
Team's feedback
Your own staff are also good resource. Communicate with them and use their responses and feedback to keep a check on your own skills. If you find you’ve made a mistake with your team, use it as a learning experience.
